How do you calculate customer acquisition cost?
CAC is total marketing spend for a period divided by the number of new customers won in that period. Include ad spend and, for a full picture, agency and tool costs. Then compare it with the gross profit a customer brings in.
What is a good CAC payback period?
Shorter is safer because cash comes back sooner. Many subscription businesses aim for about a year or less; businesses with one-time sales usually want the first order to cover acquisition. Your own cash position matters more than any rule of thumb.
